In 2005, such innovative ideas inspired a group of social workers, soccer coach and social entrepreneurs from Society of Community Organization & Wofoo Social Enterprises of Hong Kong. With their joint effort, HK Contingent was then firstly appeared in the Edinburgh, United Kingdom, and is now on the road to Paris 2011. Homeless World Cup of HK is getting increasing support from the Social Service Sectors, First Division Soccer Teams, Government Officials and the business community.
From past events, it proved that over 90% of the players achieved a better social life than before. Players managed to get their jobs and homes to live. Evidence showed that players were getting away from undesirable social behaviours like alcoholism, heavy gambling and smoking. Majority of them get support and understanding from their family members again. Their social life is also greatly improved.
The world ranking of Hong Kong Contingent is the 24th among 48 countries in 2008.
